Weeding was done once every two weeks in remembrance that weed in general compete with cultivated plants for light, water and nutrients. This was best done by hand picking.
Sheltering was all about the use of creative skills in order to keep the plants safe. The use of large sticks and coconut branches was used in the process. This was done so that the lettuce would not get too much sunlight and heavy rainfall.
Pest & Disease Control
Some of the lettuces near there mature stages were attacked by caterpillars, which devoured the leaves of the lettuces. On arrival after inspecting the plants I hand picked the caterpillars as it was small in number and used the insecticide such as Malathion which controlled this attack.
