Obesity means having 20% or more extra weight in your body than your ideal weight / fat. Obesity occurs when a person consumes more calories than he can burn and this can be calculated through the Body Mass Index or BMI. A person is considered overweight if his or her BMI is between 25 and 29.9; a person is considered obese if his or her BMI is over 30. Morbid obesity is when a person is 50% – 100% over his normal weight and has a BMI of over 40. In this case the health and normal functions of the body is affected.
